1966 Mustang General Repairs & Gearbox Recondition

The 66 Mustang came to us not running particularly well and were asked to carry out a vehicle health check.

As is often the case with older vehicles, there were a variety of things that needed repairing or making good.

In summary we carried out the following works initially:

  • Address Fuel System, including new line and Carburettor, new fuel pump
  • Brake System, including new brakes hoses, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, change brake fluid etc.
  • Power Steering Hoses, Change fluid.
  • Changed the engine oil.
  • Fit new battery
  • Fit new Heater motor
  • Fit new Starter Motor

Unfortunately during its time with us, the vehicle attempted to catch fire due to some poor electric work that a previous owner had carried out.  Essentially a bare wire made contact with the metal brake pedal when pressed. The localised wiring issue was made good and its recommend that the remaining wiring be investigated when funds permit.

During a test drive a further problem was identified that when the vehicle got hot, the gearbox began to brake down and not drive, despite changing the fluid.  In the end this resulted in the automatic gearbox being reconditioned.
